Ancient paving stone/building stone/stairs - Jerusalem is renowned for the beauty of its houses - a unique style created by the people who built them and the stones they used. At the end of the 19th Century, several quarries, where building stones were chiseled, were operating outside the city’s walls, The Jerusalemite Stone is a limestone characterized by its strength and color, which varies from pink to red and yellow. These stones were hand processed by the best of stonecutters who emigrated from Yemen. The stones were processed and made into lintels, arches, corner-stones, portals and paving, according to the architects’ requirements.
These professionals no longer exist today, nor is it possible to attain these stones since the quarries where they were made have been shut down many years ago.
