Jerusalem is renowned for the beauty of its houses - a unique style created by the people who built them and the stones they used. At the end of the 19th Century, several quarries, where building stones were chiseled, were operating outside the city’s walls, The Jerusalemite Stone is a limestone characterized by its strength and color, which varies from pink to red and yellow. These stones were hand processed by the best of stonecutters who emigrated from Yemen. The stones were processed and made into lintels, arches, corner-stones, portals and paving, according to the architects’ requirements. |
